Las Vegas 10, Reno 2

Zack Wheeler.

Reno played intrastate "rival" Las Vegas yesterday. First pitch: 11:35 a.m.. I like the early day games. It feels sort of like going to work. Like your work not my work. Right now, at my work, I'm not wearing pants.

The attraction yesterday—other than sunshine and pants—was 51s pitcher and Mets top prospect Zack Wheeler. Wheeler was drafted with the sixth pick in 2009 by the San Francisco Giants.

He throws an effortless mid-90s fastball with late movement and has a plus curve.

Sound familiar? He was traded to the Mets for Carlos Beltran.

Since then, the 22-year-old has been one of the top prospects in baseball (he is ranked eighth by MLB.com's Prospect Watch).

Reno lost the first game of the four game series, 10-2. Wheeler threw 6 2/3 innings, struck out eight and allowed one. His best outing in Triple-A so far.

It was fun to watch him work.

The 8-18 Aces play Las Vegas again tonight. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.. Randall Delgado (0-2) gets the start for Reno. I however won't be there. I have a softball game and a hitting streak to extend.

Here's my edit from yesterday. Enjoy.
