Meet the Bretz.

A few weeks ago I drove south to Mammoth Lakes, Calif. to shoot a profile of Greg Bretz and his dad, Greg Bretz for The New York Times. The photos were for another Sochi athlete feature by John Branch. The story ran Saturday with the above portrait. Bretz competes Tuesday morning (Reno-Standard Time) in the snowboard men's halfpipe.

Here are a few of the other images I shot that day. Most are from our time with Bretz Sr.—Mammoth Mountain’s assistant director of lift maintenance. He served as the day's tour guide until we met up with his son for questions and photos.
