"It's our game — the American game."

Baseball is really a summer game—at its best when school is out and the weather, warm—it's diamond brightest under the flicker of fireworks. And there's nothing more quintessentially summer than the Fourth of July. Second only to Opening Day, I look forward to photographing the Fourth more than any other night at the ballpark. The seats are full, the light is warm and bright and there's an appreciable energy.

Here are 29 of my favorite images from last night's 6-4 loss to Sacramento.
